Betsy Lawer

First National Bank Alaska

Betsy is the chairwoman and President of First National Bank Alaska. Betsy, a third-generation Alaskan banker, was inspired by her mother, Betti Cuddy, and grandmother Lucy Hon Cuddy, both Alaska Women’s Hall of Fame inductees. Betsy learned early on that Alaskan women can and should lead in business and community. After graduating from Duke University with a BA in economics in 1971, Betsy worked as a secretary for her father, who was the Board Chair and President of First National Bank of Anchorage, afterward renamed First National Bank Alaska.

Betsy is very engaged in civic organizations. She was a trustee of the University of Alaska Foundation, served on the Smithsonian National Board, advised hospital networks and high school athletic associations, and was a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Seattle branch from 1997–2003, and the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company’s President’s Community Panel since 2001. She won the 2001 Anchorage ATHENA Society Leadership Award, the 2007 Junior Achievement Alaska Business Hall of Fame, the 1999-2003 Top 25 Most Powerful People in Alaska, and the 2003 US Banker 25 Women to Watch.
