Janet is a well-known American economist that has served in some of the highest U.S. government and regulatory roles. Yellen was a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors from 1994 to 1997 and later served as the President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Board of San Francisco from 2004 to 2010. Janet was appointed as vice chair of the Federal Reserve from 2010 to 2014, then succeeded Ben Bernake as chair from 2014 to 2018. Janet left the Fed after one term to serve as a distinguished fellow in Economic Studies Program at the Brooking Institute for several years. Janet then returned to a governmental role in 2021 with President Joe Biden’s appointment of her as the Secretary of the Treasury.
