Jelena is the former Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, nominated by President Trump. Before her chairmanship, Jelena was with Fifth Third Bank serving as EVP – Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary. Jelena was part of Fifth Third Bank’s top management team and various committees, including Management Compliance, Enterprise Risk, Risk and Compliance, Operational Risk, Enterprise Marketing, and Regulatory Change. Before her role at Fifth Third, she served in the United States Senate for six years. Yelena was the Chief Counsel and Deputy Staff Director for the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs for the last two years. She was also the Assistant Chief Counsel for the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee. Currently, Jelena serves as the founder and managing partner of Cravath,k Swain, & Moore, providing legal counsel to public and private companies.
